Participation in Research Projects (as scientific coordinator)

Project RETEX (1995-1996), Organization: S.A. MARBLE QUARRY DION. PENTELIS-ARVIS Ltd. Preparation, submission and promotion of proposals which are integrated in RETEX program, for adopting the quality management system ISO 9002 by the company, choosing alternative investments and supply systems of environmental equipment. ARVIS company participates as a principal researcher and scientific director.

Project JOULE III - THERMIE (1998-2000), Organization: EU - DG XII / C. PARTNERS: NTU - MUNICH UNIVERSITY - UNIVERSITY OF ATHENS IFB GROUP - TECHNOLIN - KAFANTARIS - AUSTROCONTROL - ARVIS Ltd. Subject of this research program is the theoretical and applied research on energy recovery from waste cotton, the design and construction of a pilot combustion unit, the environmental impacts, and also, the research for alternative methods of exploiting the energy produced. I participate as a principal researcher and scientific director for the company ARVIS in order to design the treatment of environmental problems which are associated with the research and the study of "REVERSE LOGISTICS". (Design the reversal of the problems that will arise from the combustion, and calculation / evaluation of the cost - benefit in different alternative investments).

Project INFO 2000 (1998-2000), Organization: European Union - DG XIII, PARTNERS: HFvA (GERMANY) - ZMDI (GERMANY) - IN & DI (SPAIN)-ARVIS Ltd (GREECE) - RENDAN (DENMARK) - NORSAS (NORWAY) - EXPOSED (GERMANY) - CREDO (University of Sheffield) (ENGLAND). The theme of this research program is to create a virtual European network database to Internet (Electronic Waste Information Network) with information and data on waste management. I participate as a principal researcher and scientific director for the ARVIS company, in order to study and implement the part of research concerning Greece, focusing on techno-economical analysis of the system.

Project EQUAL (Competitive Community Program 2002 - 2004), Participation in consortium with 28 operators having the title "NEW ENTREPRENEURSHIP FOR THE NORTH AEGEAN – PERSPECTIVE OF LIFE – K.P. EQUAL », with the objective of creating job opportunities for people with disabilities within the framework of activities related to recycle and environment. In particular, my occupation is to participate as a principal researcher and scientific director for the ARVIS Company, concerning the techno-economical analysis for exploring the possibilities of employment at recycling centers for people with disabilities.

Project EQUAL (Second Cycle of Implementation 2004-2006), Scientific supervisor of all subprojects of Coordinator Partner of the consortium “Social /Professional Recovery in Recycling - Hope for the Environment" for the implementation of the project in the research project entitled:" Social and Professional Recovery for People with Disabilities and the Greek Gypsies through a recycling program of electrical and electronic waste in Greece "in the context of the Community Initiative EQUAL.

TECHNΟ-ECONOMICAL EVALUATION OF PROCESSES AND TECHNOLOGIES OF DESALINATION WITHIN THE PRINCIPLES OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT (2008), Project Manager of the program. Organization: Department of Industrial Management and Operational Research, School of Mechanical Engineering, NTUA. Employer: ARISTO DEVELOPERS SA. The scope of the project is the analysis of existing desalination technologies, which are used internationally, the legal requirements and the techno-economic parameters of these systems in order to identify technical specifications for a prototype system, which is going to be aligned to the principles of sustainable development, with particular reference to the protection of the environment.

RISK MANAGEMENT ANALYSIS IN TUNNEL T8 AND SYMBOL OF "Egnatia Odos S.A." (2009), Project Manager, Organization: Department of Industrial Management and Operational Research, School of Mechanical Engineering, NTUA. Employer: Egnatia Odos S.A. The objective of the project is the Risk Analysis, based on internationally applicable methodologies for tunnels T8 and Symbol of Egnatia Odos.

RISK MANAGEMENT ANALYSIS IN THE TUNNEL OF “PRIONION and KOILOMATOS OF "Egnatia Odos S.A." (2009), Project Manager of the program Organization: Department of Industrial Management and Operational Research, School of Mechanical Engineering, NTUA. Employer: Egnatia Odos S.A. The objective of the project is to analyze the risk (Risk Analysis), based on internationally applicable methodologies for the tunnels “Prionon and Koilomatos” of the Egnatia Odos.

LIFE CYCLE ANALYSIS OF ELECTRICAL - ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS ON FOR “ELECTRONIKI ATHINON S.A.” (2010 -), Project Manager of the program, Organization: Department of Industrial Management and Operational Research, School of Mechanical Engineering, NTUA. Employer: WWF. The project is related with the development of a methodology for ranking environmental impacts of selected products in “ELECTRONIKI ATHINON S.A.”, based on specialized software, and creating the relevant "green card", which will contain quantitative information in relation to the above, and will be developed in selected products in order to inform the candidate buyers.

Project "LEONARDO DA VINCI" ENTITLED "EUROPEAN TRAINING PARTNERSHIP ON SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION" (2010 - 2012), Project Manager of the program, Organization: Department of Industrial Management and Operational Research, School of Mechanical Engineering, NTUA, Employer: European Union, the objective of the project is to create synergies between institutions in different countries, aiming at the creation of common educational and innovative activities.

ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY FOR THE RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT OF AREAS OUTSIDE THE MUNICIPALITY OF GLYFADAS (2010 - 2011), Project Manager of the program, Organization: Department of Industrial Management and Operational Research, School of Mechanical Engineering, NTUA. Employer: Housing Association of Glyfada, Environmental and Ecological Survey and Evaluation of the region and proposal for Residential Development.

“PAY AS YOU THROW (PAYT)”, OPERATIONAL PROGRAMMES, «COMPETITIVENESS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP» AND REGIONS IN TRANSITION, NSRF 2007-2013 NATIONAL ACTION: «COOPERATION 2011 - Partnerships of Production and Research Institutions in Focused Research and Technology Sectors» (2001 – 2015), Project Manager, Organization: GSRT. The objectives of the project are:

• the exploitation of modern collection systems and waste management, which will promote the fair and equitable bill for the citizens, through urban taxes and depending on how they recycle
• the reduction of the waste and the increase of the recycling rate
• the integration and development of economic / social / management tools in order to promote the separation of materials from the landfills to recycling.

Participation in Research Projects (as member of the research team)

Ministry of Development - General Secretariat for Research & Technology, Research Project PAVE (1990-1993), Organization: NTUA - ETAKEI S.A. - MANCOM S.A., "Development of an expert CAD system for the automatic optimization of the design in production process in the clothing industry." Participation as a principal researcher of NTUA in applied research, in collaboration with ETAKEI S.A in order to develop a decision support system based on operational research algorithms, artificial intelligence rules and AutoCAD.

Project RETEX (1995), Organization: NTUA - MARANGOU BROS SA - MANCOM S.A., "Creation a section for design clothing with PC". Participation as a principal researcher of the NTUA in design research program, development and installation of the design system of cutting clothes in the industry: MARANGOU BROS S.A.

Project: EUROPEAN INTER-REGIONAL CO-OPERATION PROGRAMME RECITE II (2001 - 2002), Organization: EUROPEAN UNION. SUBJECT: PROJECT ECOSERT, EUROPEAN COOPERATION FOR SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENTAL REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH TOURISM, Participation as a researcher of the University of Thessaly, with the subject "Application System of Environmental Management EMAS in tourist and recreational areas."

Program: «Transferring the Experience of Greece to Turkey in the Field of Environment During the Accession Period» (2007), Organization: E-CONET NGO. Participation as scientific director of the program. Contributing to enhance applicability from Turkey, approaches which are related to the environment in the NPAA, and also, creating a cooperation approach. Provision of technical knowledge and information sharing between public sector, private sector, Universities and NGOs in Turkey and Greece, on issues which are related to the environment in order to improve the skills and the educational capacity of Turkey in the field of environment.

Project: «FORWAST» (2007), Organization: European Union, Member of the Steering Committee of the program. Purpose: Global mapping of physical flows and stocks of resources in order to forecast the waste quantities in Europe, as well as to identify the life-cycle of environmental factors for the reduction the waste produced and recycling.

Program: «INFORMATION EXCHANGE AND AWARENESS RAISING PROJECT ON SHIPMENTS OF WASTE» (2007), Organization: EUROPEAN COMMISSION (DG ENVIRONMENT), Principal Responsible for the Organization of a Conference in Athens, on behalf of the German Society Advisors BIPRO GmbH. The Conference held at TEE 23-24/04/07. Purpose of the project: Information was provided to the National Authorities for the importance of proper implementation of the European Regulation concerning the transboundary shipment of waste, and, also, the need for increased assistance and cooperation between all stakeholders

SPECIAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT STUDY OF NTUA FOR THE NE END OF CRETE (2008), Principal Researcher, Organization: Department of Industrial Management and Operational Research, School of Mechanical Engineering, NTUA. Employer: Institution of "Panagia Akrotiriani". The objectives of the project are the analysis of all the characteristics of the area within the framework of Natura 2000, the determination of management plans for the optimal management of the region and the definition of the permitted uses and of the possible investments, after the delimitation of the special zones. Finally, proposals were determined for the composition and the operation of a new body for the management of the area.

OLYMPIC GAMES GLOBAL IMPACT-GLOBAL IMPACT OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES 2004 (SUPPLEMENT / June-December 2008), Principal Researcher, Organization: Department of Industrial Management and Operational Research, School of Mechanical Engineering, NTUA., Employer: Olympic Properties SA, The subject of the project is the additional evaluation of the impacts of the Olympic Games (following a previous agreement) on the axes: Economy, Culture, Environment and Society, based on the progress of the evaluation indicators and targeted questionnaires to the involved groups.
